Ultrafast Optics: Challenges and Solutions

ON DEMAND WEBINAR

Ultrafast Optics:
Challenges and Solutions

Ultrafast lasers have revolutionized a number of application spaces, but optical components for these systems face a unique set of challenges that must be overcome to maintain high pulse quality and maximize performance.

Get the most from your ultrafast laser optics!

Join us for a 45 minute webinar presented by Edmund Optics' ultrafast laser optics expert Tony Karam, Ph.D. to learn about the unique challenges faced by ultrafast laser systems and solutions for choosing the correct ultrafast optical components. Ultrafast laser systems feature extremely short pulse durations on the order of picoseconds to attoseconds, which are highly advantageous for an extensive range of applications including medical lasers, nonlinear imaging and microscopy, and materials processing.

At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will have a strong understanding around:

  • The benefits of chirped and highly-dispersive mirrors for pulse compression and dispersion compensation
  • The unique factors that affect the laser induced damage threshold of ultrafast optics
  • Strategies to limit group delay dispersion in transmissive ultrafast optics
  • How to choose the proper ultrafast optics for your application

Tony Karam Meet the Presenter - Tony Karam, Ph.D.

Tony Karam received his Ph.D. in Chemistry, Ultrafast Spectroscopy, and Nanotechnology from Louisiana State University. Following his graduate studies, he moved to the California Institute of Technology as a postdoctoral scholar at the Center for Ultrafast Science and Technology under the supervision of Nobel Laureate Ahmed Zewail. At Caltech, he worked on the development of ultrafast electron diffraction and microscopy for the investigation of lattice dynamics, correlated atomic motion, and structural transformation in atomically-thin materials and nanofilms. Tony is now a Laser Optics Product Line Manager in Edmund Optics’ Barrington, NJ, USA office where he has been working on the development and commercialization of optical elements and components for laser applications. He is the author of over 40 publications on ultrafast lasers, material science, and photonics.
